ABOUT ROSEMARY

Rosemary Goodell is a Baton Rouge based artist. While she takes inspiration from the natural color of the Louisiana landscape, she also counts Japanese art as a strong influence on her work. The use of flat color, asymmetrical balance, and line has influenced her for years. Her monoprints incorporate unique shapes of her own making. Often they are made from reusable materials, allowing her to repeat the shape across prints within a series and recontextualize them based on placement and surroundings within a composition.

Goodell studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and received a BFA and MA from the University of California, Berkley. She has received numerous grants to pursue her creative studies including a Fulbright Fellowship to study and travel in Japan, a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant and a Visual Artist Fellowship grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Her work is included in number of private and public collections and has been published in The Times Picayune, The Advocate, Country Roads and Art Matters (Boston Museum School).
